I could install a new SL - still in test - viewer recently and rendering has been much enhanced for skies and seas ! Just have a look by yourself.
I completed the mini house furniture by a colorful armchair and sofa. They are available at the workshop.
To get along with them, I also "crocheted" cushions. Yes, the texture comes from something I had crocheted in real life :) They are so cute and almost look like "macaron" cakes, yummy ! I love them.
Last but not least, not so far from the workshop, you'll find a beach rug that I also made.
Those items are available for the moment at my workshop on Kurimco Island. Please don't expect perfection (they are priced correspondingly) and give me feed back so that I can enhance them. You'll find dollarbies to thank you for your visit :)
After two weeks of multiple connexions to SL (3 to 4 times a week or so !), I must confess that I like it, but I also dislike a certain number of things... I still feel completely overwhelmed by SL appeal though.
What I like:
- This is a whole universe to explore and some parts (I should call them "sims" now) are really creative. I've always liked exploring Irulde Realm (in Zelda game) and this makes me feel the same... Curiosity killed the cat. I should remember :)
- I can identify to my avatar and build her own style corresponding to my tastes... so I'm her, she's me... this is fun even if really confusing.
- There are so many people to encounter. I've met wonderful people already: caring, generous, interesting, friendly...
- There"s still room for creation: from graphic design to business or communities, there are so many possibilities...
- I miss a "best places of SL" guide, for this is difficult to avoid visiting uninteresting places.
- You can't visit only PG places as some "mature" places are really interesting and a "mature" rated place does not necessarily include violent ou sexual things...
- Some people may feel desinhibited in there and some may be really rude. You can be asked to have sex by an intruder right in the middle of an interesting discussion about opera with a charming vocalist. You can also be "bombed" or noise spammed while creating things quietly... I may be over sensitive but this really bothers me...
- A great number of people are "like the others"... does everybody really want to look the same, really ? On the good side of it, I can select easily who I'd wish to talk to :)
- This is so appealing that I could spend hours in there... without noticing RL is going on !
Well, I wanted to build something as I recently learned that there were places where to build in SL.
My first attemps in pure creation are... well... first attempts :) Better not show...
Usually you build things in a "sandbox" place but I discovered, by chance, a whole island where you can build ! Well, this gave me the idea of putting together a house and a worshop and a shop (I wish I could do that in RL). And I am rather satisfied by the result. Several people stopped by and told me this was an unusual style in SL and that they like it. Here it is...
Someone had the very good idea to release this free japanese garden. How cute ! I instantly installed it before the great window. This make the "beach" side of the house very stylish... Take a look by yourself :)
I guess many people in SL do not own or rent a personal place... and this doen't put us a the fringe of the society.
Many newbies like me surely look for free stuff to grab in SL... and this doesn't mean we are poor. A whole part of SL organisation even seems to rely on freebies.
You can even win money (virtual dollars called Linden Dollars by the name of SL founder) just by camping (staying) in some places...
I do not have a good idea yet of what all this means compared with RL... Maybe later on ?
I finally learned how to unpack my boxes: I had to find a place that allowed "build". I took the first I found in the search results and finally was able to drag and drop the boxes onto the floor and to open them!
I got a very nice pair of wedge pumps but... I discovered that my feet were far too big to fit in ! I tried another pair: same thing !!!...
Then I discovered that I could not change my "shape" foot size and that I had to find a new shape... Some of them looked really too Barbie or to unreal...
I finally chose this one, called "Eve" that is greatly modifiable and does not make me look too different, except for the size of the feet.
Thanks to Rimco and Fab Cherlindrea, I've now found many freebies, mainly clothes... I will be able to act as a real girl and change myself every now and then. Cool.
When discovering this part of SL economy (I mean free products or nearly free products), I also discovered something to solve out. Many products come "in a box". Of course, like in RL :) I was told you have to find the appropriate place to unpack them. I guess that if you have your own house in SL, this will be the appropriate place... but, I don't.
So, for the moment, a few items remain stuck in their boxes...
I've been recommanded to visit "little Kyoto"... Thus, I went there.
This place is really peaceful. This is difficult to compare with RL Kyoto though. I wish I could visit a few temples there but I haven't found yet... At least, there are pretty kimonos there :) This is a perfect place to try a traditional way of dressing or brand new gothic lolita outfits. This would be a perfect place to kiss your boyfriend too... Unfortunately, this is not meant to I think...
... last week, I started a new experience called 2nd life.
First thing, I had to have an avatar... but not anybody's... my avatar. This is rather strange how almost every girl you meet in SL looks like a Barbie Girl... And almost every boy looks like an Action Man. Well, how the Barbies and Action Men will find mine if I'm too different ?... Not a good question for someone like me. Let's try !
So, thanks to Mika, Kuri was born...
She's not exaclty like me but I could be like her. I chose her outfit inspiring from my own wardrobe, adding a sexy touch (I'm competing with Barbies after all !) and trying to make her unique - like wearing gloves in summer, that's it :).
